Mini Biography / Biyografi
Born in Wrexham, North Wales, Shaun Delaney is part Irish, part Welsh. His parents divorced when he was 6 years old.Shaun was a promising footballer as a kid and teenager and also played the guitar to a good standard. In his early teens, partly inspired by the "Rocky" movies and partly to look-after himself on the rough council estate he lived on in North Wales, Shaun turned to boxing and trained 3 times each week for about 3 years. In school, Shaun, it must be said, showed no promise of ever amounting to anything. He failed all his O'level at the age of 16. He made a mistake one day by thinking that his English exam was tomorrow, not today. When his mate told him the exam was due to start in 30 minutes Shaun was eating his lunch in a cafe at the town centre...and never turned up for his English exam....preferring to eat his lunch at a relaxed pace....rather than rush it and run back to school for the exam.In fairness, he decided to re-take his exams the following year and did mucg better, passing all of his exams scoring the highest in the school's history in the subject of business studies ("The World At Work").Leaving school at 17, he was a window and door salesman, cold calling at people's houses during the evening. He was very good at this and was always very confident and conversant. 2 years later, he tried his luck in the communications industry, selling car phones and radio pagers. This didn't go too well and he longed for a "normal" job, which was not solely based on commission, so became a labourer on construction site. This later lead to eventually trying his hand at joinery and carpentry. He was not really much good at that and often would hammer his finger....and get a black nail. At that time, the money was not much good and he could not see what he was going to do with his life. Then his best friend suggested they go to college and get an education. Then 22, for the next year he studied finance and law at Llandrillo Collage (Colwyn Bay, N. Wales). This allowed him to follow on to University to study Law on the south coast of England. He graduated in 1997.In 2000 he moved to São Paulo, Brazil, and learned Portuguese so that he could communicate with his girlfriend's parents. He spent about a year there, before moving on to Bangkok, Thailand. This is where he stayed for about 3 years and during that period "fell in love" with acting. As a result, he chose to bin his law career, which was going very well. Quite a bold move...if ever there was one.He claims that no matter how "good" an actor is, an actor needs a fair share of luck to get off the ground and become a working actor. "you could be the most believable actor in the World, with bags of talent, intellect and good looks too. But without some good luck, you may never get any work as an actor".He pinpoints such a moment of good luck to a time in a restaurant in Bangkok, where he met the actor Gary Stretch (former boxing World Champ). Stretch helped Shaun get his first principal role in a movie. The movie, "Final Combat", was directed by the legendary film maker Menahem Golan. Stretch invited Shaun to come to the shoot day after day. On the last day, as luck would have it, an actor had failed to turn up for work. They were setting up and ready to shoot the scene in which the absent actor was supposed to feature. Still the actor had not arrived. With the production unable to wait, Shaun was asked to take that actor's place and only had about 5 minutes to learn the lines, get his costume on and make-up sorted out.Shaun's roles continue to get bigger and has gained a reputation as being a professional, passionate and very able and versatile actor. His stage experience (as 1 of a group of 4 stand-up comedians, performing in Thai language, would you believe....) which amounts to about 350 live performances and about 12 TV shows on Thai national television, have also shaped him. After doing his 5th live performance on stage, the group was asked to go on national TV, on the 'At Ten' show, which is Thailand's equivalent of The Johnny Carson show. With viewing figures of about 25 million, it is the biggest show in Thailand.Having just completed shooting on Blackbeard, Shaun is signed for 2 more productions over the next 5 months. So we will be seeing more of him! IMDb Mini Biography By: Richy Moore
